What spills over the dam is not water.
That river is bound.
What spills over the dam is
work for the workless:
Bone.
Muscle.
Hands. America’s broken back.
Bottles & straws
Bottles & straws
There is a bathhouse,
a bridge — jackhammered
from the red canyon walls &
five kayaks paddle upstream:
away from the plaque,
away from it all.

Such an intriguing poem. I have read it three times, enjoying all the images immensely.
Sorry for taking so long to reply. Thank you, Worms. It’s been a crazy couple of months, and the time I have to invest in WP has been greatly diminished, sadly.

Wonderful image and a sadness to your poem. “America’s broken back” is such an evocative term.
Wonderful work, my friend! I hope you are well! Please, when you can, check your email!
