how long can a word
be stretched before meaning
the imprint breaks before
object and action slip
into the helix of the first word
mumbled under the breath
as the first wind that stroked
the drum of the first ear
that pulsed with the blood
of some other oblivion
mute though gestured
in the hands of a newborn
child blind and still reaching
for the milk of all forgiveness
