if asked tell them I’ve climbed
into the mouth of a mountain
tell them as if ever I’ve been
I am nothing if not chewed
spat eschewed as bitter or
caustic as lime I cannot
presume such sacrifice
as righteous nor prevail
upon you dear reader
a knowledge such that
cannot be found in the small
and guttered glitters that
posit themselves
as starlight
