latch

being a man
of insufficient malice,
I brush snow from the shoulders
of my London Fog before opening
the door, hang it on the hook above
the mat and the shoes, cautiously
parallel. and being a man
of insufficient malice, I am
grateful for the mudroom,
the latch, the jamb and the wind
left perilous outside.
