A Dream Rendered

I am late for work again,
but the tub is full of orange water rising
into towels wicking orange water.

I fumble in the tub for the drain plug chain
and pull.

I am late for work again,
but the party is on
and Jared has a milk moustache.

But he’s tugging a seven and seven
and Noel is green as absinthe,
pulling on crown and passing around.

I am late for work again,
but my car is hanging on a peg
because the garage is full
and the driveway is full of trucks
and hummers.

I am late for work again,
Casey offers me a ride
but she’s opening presents wrapped
in blue stars and kittens.

I am late for work again,
so I walk.

But the road is mud,
the grass is mud,
the trees been mud flung to the tops
and everything seems to be slipping.

So I walk,
but the grizzlies stand taller than me
and they drop to their forepaws
and the fat ripples in the charge,
dragged by teeth and twisting necks.

I back slowly but they’re gaining
and jackrabbits flush from the mud.

But a man in a blazer and his dog
take the leash and thrash of it,
thrown around like pillows,
pillows made of red and flesh brocade.

    1. As I am a bit new to wordpress, I am still trying to get all the dots and dashes covered. I suppose, in time, I’ll figure out how to get more info up and running. You can certainly ask any question that may give you more insight into my work and what inspires it.

Devon, please kindly leave me a message on my blog to inform me when you have composed your anticipated “About” page so that I shall be one of the first, if not indeed the very first, to comment there.

  1. Sounds like all hell breaking loose, with the token accompaniment of strangers to set the scene. Quite like the idea of attempted escape and not quite making it!
